Australian Films in Seattle

As Tim mentioned in our meeting last week, the Seattle International Film Festival is showing a number of films from Australia this year, in early June. Here is a link to the program information on these films:

I plan on going to see at least 2 of them:

Samson & Delilah won Best Film at the Australian Film Institute Awards in 2009 (it's our equivalent of an Oscar). It also won the Camera d'Or at Cannes.

Blessed is set in Melbourne and directed by Melbourne filmmaker Ana Kokkinos. Kokkinos will be in attendance, and her earlier film Head On will also be screened. I have seen Head On, and highly recommend it (it's based on the novel Loaded by Melbourne writer Christos Tsiolkas): but be warned! It is graphic and confronting, dealing with both sexuality and growing up Greek in Melbourne.

It sounds as though both of the newer films I mention deal with similarly difficult material. If others are interested in attending as a group let me know - perhaps we can organize to go together.
